As part of this session, participants will be given a comprehensive overview on:

  • Why profitability is important to a law firm
  • How a law firm makes money
  • Gain an understanding of the basics of law firm profitability and how these can be interpreted (and reported) differently
  • Discuss why it is useful to adopt a more comprehensive view of law firm financial metrics.


Completion of this module earns participants one (1) credit hour toward an Academy Certificate of Completion.  

This session will be delivered by esteemed Academy Faculty Member Stuart Dodds, CPP, ALPP, ALPM of Positive Pricing.

Stuart was one of the first and longest serving pricing and legal project management directors in the legal industry, first with Linklaters and most recently with Baker McKenzie.  Previously Stuart worked as a management consultant for 18 years in a variety of strategy, supply chain and procurement-facing roles across many industry sectors.

He is a sought after speaker at conferences, extensively quoted in pricing and project management publications, and author/ editor of two books on legal pricing and project management ('Smarter Pricing, Smarter Profit' and 'Pricing On the Front Line', both published by the American Bar Association).

Stuart is an Certified Pricing Professional (CPP) and was the first recipient of the Institute's Accredited Legal Pricing Professional (ALPP) qualification.  He is also Fellow of the College of Law Practice Management and Accredited Legal Project Manager (ALPM).
